1998 Ford E-250 Sticking - Electrical & Lighting Systems

Question: Shifter is locked in park. ABS light is flashing. Vehicle will start, but will not move to park, even when depressing brake pedal, which is normal procedure to move into other gears. Had new brake pads installed 1 week ago, along with new rear wheel cylinders. Brakes have been "mushy"(some air in fluid line?).

Technican: First problem, brake lights are not working. The switch, fuse or related wiring are bad and the truck cannot tell you stepped on the brake. For emergency, you can get the truck to move by turning the key to the first position, shifting to neutral, starting the engine and then shifting to the gear of your choice. This will let you move it to get it repaired. Second problem, you may have air in the lines. If several quick presses of the brake pedal bring the pedal position higher, then that is likely the fault. Sometimes new brakes can feel soft or mushy for a week or two until they are fully seated.
Owner: Yes, I found that exactly correct. Had the brake system bled, now good pedal. Just concerned if fuse blows again, what may be the cause.
Technican: Wait until that happens, it may not happen for years. It could be anything for a bad brake switch, to a wrong light bulb, to a pinched wire. If all the brake lights are working right, don't worry about it unless it happens again. It is almost impossible to find such a problem unless it consistently blows the fuse.
Owner: Okay. Appreciate the input/help.
Technican: You are welcome.
