1988 Ford Escort Malfunction - Electrical & Lighting Systems
Question: My E reg Escort 1.4 is having a problem with the rear light clusters. The brake lights, indicators and reverse lights are fine, but the normal tail lights won't work. The dash won't light either. I've checked the bulbs and the fuses and their all OK. When I turn on my lights at night, the headlights are fine but the rear lights don't even flicker - any ideas??

Technican: Hello, Please recheck your tail lamp fuse. The dash lights get their power from this tail lamp fuse too. (even though you'll see a fuse for instruement lamps, the dash lights fuse won't work unless the tail light fuse does.)
Be sure to use the same amp rated fuse. Do you have an owners manual to guide you on fuse locations?
Please advise. Owner: Hi ya,
Thanks for getting back to me! I've tried all of the fuses again, and their all OK and in the right places. I do have a guide to show me where their supposed to go, and their exactly where it says. Technican: Oh boy, from here I'd be checking the headlight switch outputs. Can you get to the switch connectors? A seperate output should go to park/tail lights vs. headlamps.
Can you check a tail light bulb socket for tail lamp voltage? If it is there, we'd be looking for a open ground circuit...
Can you see any wiring connectors near where one might kick it loose when operating foot pedals?
Thinking out loud... Technican: Hello, Thought I'd check in and see how this repair is progressing. Is your car fixed? Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
