1988 Ford Escort Malfunction - Ignition System
Question: I am experiencing trouble with keeping the car running more than 10 minutes after I first start it in the morning. The car will simply shut off. Then it will not start again until approximitly 10 to 20 minutes have gone by. I have already replaced the coil, ignition control module and I am running out of ideas. I don't have any cgheck engine lights and my Snap on scanner came up with no codes.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Walt

Technican: Hello, Have you looked at the fuel filter? Fuel Pressure? When it stalls do you have spark? Can you get a restart with a short shot of starting fluid?
There is also a filter inside the fuel tank on the fuel pump pick-up line. It may be sucked flat by the pump due to clogged screen. When the engine stops, the filter "blooms open" (in shape) because the pump stopped too. Owner: I have changed the filter on the fire wall so far. I was unaware of the filter in the tank. I will check that and get back to you. Thanks Technican: I'm interested in what you find. Owner: ,
We pulled the gas tank after a pressure test that only showed 18psi out put at the TBI. The nylon sock was OK. The fuel pump will be replaced tomorrow after the parts guy sends us the right one!!! Murphys law
Thank you for the help!!!
