1991 Ford Escort Chugging - Engine

Question: car hesitates seems like it will not rev up when fuel feed is depressed rapidly but if you do it slowley it revs ok it also has blo by oil in air filter, we already changed pc valve but i do not know what else would effect the vacume system, the car has 76, 000 miles and the check engine light stays on constantly, my email is

Technican: Hello, What engine do you have, please? How long since you changed the fuel filter? The PCV valve is about all the maintenance you can do for the crankcase breather system. Is there good vacuum at the valve's connection point? Blow-by can be serious signs of stuck rings on the pistons, wear on the cylinder walls, carbon build-up in the combustion chambers, etc. Do you know the maintenance history of this car? Correct oil type and change frequency (depending on the car's use) are critical to the engines life. A severe overheat would factor negatively too. Does the engine leak oil? A compression tset will give you some answers for both the loss of power and the blow-by condition. A fuel pressure test could be helpful if you are confident the fuel filter is Okay. Thoughts?,
Owner: the engine is a 1.9 litre and it is a standard but it almost seems like there is no vacume at the pcv is there a oxygine senser somewhere in th system or where does the vacune start if i could check where it starts than i would know which way to trouble shoot.
Technican: Do you see a vacuum schematic decal on your radiator support or the underside of your hood? It will give you an idea of the system's layout (if it is there). Follow the PCV vacuum hose back from the valve to where it connects to the engine intake manifold or throttle body and disconnect it there. Is it plugged up with coking? With your eyes protected you can spray choke cleaner and use something like a piece of speedometer cable in a cordless drill to break up any blockage. In worst cases the throttle body or intake will have to come off for a thorough cleaning of the vacuum ports. That said let me remind you that a compression test can be helpful here. It is reasonable thinking that if compression is weak that vacuum will also be impaired (assuming there are no leaks from gaskets that no longer seal the intake system). Vacuum is created as pistons move on the down stroke of the combustion cycle. If rings are stuck and don't seal well you will not get good compression on the upstroke nor good vacuum when the piston moves down. I'm still wondering about my other questions concerning the car's history (maintenance, overheating, type oil and change interval)?
