1992 Ford Explorer Failing - Fuel System
Question: The battery charge drops to about 9 when I brake, but then jumps back to normal when I give it gas. Today it failed for the first time while shifting. I had to give it a lot of gas to keep it going. what's going on, and can I fix it myself?

Technican: You may be able to fix this yourself. Put a voltmeter on the battery itself and see if it matches what the dash meter is reading. If they are not within 1 volt of each other when this problem is occuring, check for a bad ground wire or conneciton between the battery to the body, or a bad power wire or connections between the battery and the fuse box. Owner: Thanks for the reply. I was having problems about a month ago with the truck not starting at all. I took it to a mechanic who replaced the battery and the battery cable. It started fine for about a week, then I had to jump it, then it was fine again until today. Should I take it back to the mechanic, and is it his responsiblity to fix any problems that might be resulting because of the work done a month ago? Technican: If the fault is with the battery cables at the battery, it should be his responsibility. If the fault is where the cables are fastened to the body or the engine, he would have had nothing to do with that. He may be glad to help you out anyways, give him a call.
