1994 Ford Explorer Other - Engine


Question: Check engine light comes on after engine warmes up.get codes: 558, EGR Valve Regulator solenoid circuit fault..and code 332, Insufficient EGR flow detected.What to do? Erik.

Technican: Hi; Need to replace egr valve. Also need to check the repeat of the code. erase it and then try again. .
Owner: Hi! Changed the EGR valve. Cleared the codes.Still getting the check enging light, and the code 332.One book I have say:insufficient EGR flow detected, and the other book say: code 332...EGR valve opening not detected..what to do? Thanks again.Erik
Technican: Hi, how about trying to replace the EGR sensor.
Owner: The egr valve sensor, the egr valve position sensor or the pressure feedback egr sensor? Erik.
Owner: I replased the EGR pressure sensor..same problem..code 332 forget the last question..:-( Any more ideas? Erik
Technican: Hi; Try disconnecting hte sensorand see if you get a high rich mixture, Also have you cleared all the codes? Thanks.

Technican: Hi; It wa a mispelling. It meant to disconnect the sensor. Soory.
Owner: Did that, and no difference. I get code 332 while doing a Key On, Engine Off..so should not be the vacum right? Maybe some electrical problem...My brain is dead...how are you doing :-) Erik. And yes, I clear the codes everytime I try something new..so don't know what is giving me 332 with the engine NOT running..

Technican: Hi; Code 558 means the egr vaccumm regulator. Sounds like I need to do a little research before I can help you. It sounds like you got a short in the wiring harness. Thanks.
Technican: Hi Erik. You should have a egr vacuum regulator. This is what controls the valve opening and not. It gets it's signal from the computer. There is two different systems that Ford used. One is called " Pressure Feedback EGR (PFE), and the other is called " Differential Pressure Feedback (DPFE). According to my schematics you should have the DPFE. This is the system that uses the one EVR instead of two. .
