Technican: Hello, I'll get you a specific answer for your model. I find many of them behind the right kick panel.
Back soon, Owner: I found only the airbag module behind the right kick panel and the REMOTE keyless entry module behind the left rear panel. Please also verify the location of the original code for the KEYLESS entry keypad. Technican: Ford tells me you are correct. The module is behind the left rear panel. If there is no code on a sticker on the module case then the use of a scan tool is needed. It was further stated that not all the modules have/had such a sticker.
Do you, a family member, or a friend know a technician personally? Even body shops have scan tools. You might catch a guy on a lunch hour or a Saturday that would help you on the side if you tip him a few bucks. Body shops have a much lower labor rate in many cases. Are there any Vo-Tech Schools that teach Automotive in your area? Maybe they'll help.
Your thoughts?, Owner: ,
The module behind the rear panel is the Remote Keyless Entry Control, not the Keyless Entry Keypad Control. I guess a more specific question should be which computer are they talking about? However, the owner's manual does state that the code is taped on the computer. Since this info is in the section of the manual dealing with the Keypad operation, should I assume they are talking about the Keypad Computer? If so, is this control behind the rear panel the Keypad Computer? Technican: The Keyless Entry Keypad communicates with the Remote Keyless Entry Controller (Module) located behind the left rear panel. This control verifies when the correct keypad sequence is entered and signals the power lock system to lock/unlock.
The Keypad is indeed remote to the control box and compares to a Keyfob with buttons used for keyless entry on other models. A keyfob signal is "learned" by a controller and the controller will command the power locks, etc because it ignores all other signals it receives. The difference is the technology your vehicle model uses. Your controller will "listen" to any combination/sequence of numbers pressed on the keypad but will only recognize the correct number sequence entered as the authorized code/signal to obey.
You are in the right place. Don't let the nomenclature info on the control box mislead you. Ford tells me that not all of these controllers have the code on the case. Your's may not be the original controller.
All that said, yes, the control behind the left rear panel is the "Keypad Computer".
