1996 Ford Explorer Other - Chassis, Suspension & Steering
Question: My brake light stays on. It is located on my dashboard. When I apply my brakes it goes out. When I left off of my brakes, it comes back on.
Also, sometimes when I put my Explorer in reverse, it feels like it is isn't in gear. I have to put it back in park then back to reverse to get it to move. This has also happened a few times in drive. I came to a stop light and when I pushed on the gas it just sat there. Had to put it in park then back in drive. This has happened when the car is cold.

Technican: Hello, Have you checked the brake fluid level in the resivoir for the master cylinder? Have you looked in the owners manual for tips on what a driver may check when a warning light is on?
How many miles on your SUV? Has the transmission shift linkage been inspected for worn bushings and correct adjustments? Slack in the linkage can be a cause, but if this happens "Cold", it may be time to check the fluid level and condition. Changing the fluid and filter will give you a look at what (if anything) is stopping/restricting fluid pick up at the filter screen.
