1997 Ford Explorer Malfunction - Drive Train & Driveline
Question: My explorer has trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear only after about a half an hour of driving.
The transmission will rev higher than normal, over 3000 rpm and then I have to back off of the accelerator to get it to shift.
Any ideas??

Technican: These transmissions are computer controlled. A scan for troublecodes is recommended. Autozone will scan for troublecodes free of charge. Vehicle speed sensors and throttle position sensors are examples of inputs to the computer that cause problems.
It is not uncommon for these transmissions to fail with as little as 60-90k miles. You will need to find a shop that will test drive and give an estimate. There are many complaints about national chain shops. So be sure to ask around to find a trusted mechanic. Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
