Technican: Hello, The black wire may be the chassis ground. It will be the ground for the audio part of the radio in many cases.
Is this a factory or aftermarket system? Do you have a schematic?
Please advise. Owner: It's a factory system and I can't find a schematic I was wondering if it was a ground but couldn't understand why it would be on the speaker wiring cluster Technican: I'm out of town and due back tomorrow. I believe I can get you a schematic when I get back. Would you like me to fax what I find? I do not have the scan to email capability...
I could simply find where the black wire connects and tell you. Would that work? Did you try grounding the black wire? Owner: If you could let me know where the black wire goes that would be great. In the mean time I will ground that wire and see what happens.
Thanks for the help Technican: Grounding the black wire won't help. The schematic shows it to be a "SHIELD". If you have a CD Changer, the black wire runs to the Changer and to the Amplifier (right rear side of vehicle).
Fuses for the sound system are Fuse #20 (7.5 amp) and Fuse #29 (10 amp) in the Interior Fuse Panel (left side of vehicle below dash). Also Fuse #1 (30 amp) in the Power Distribution Box (left side of engine compartment).
Do you have a fax number? I can send you the schematic. The drawing I have shows speaker connector black wire a shield even if you do not have a CD Changer. (C256 Pin #14) Only difference I see is two black wires = CD Changer, one black wire = no CD .
Please advise. Owner: If you could fax the schematic, the number is 1-304-242-6994 Would the fuses prevent sound? because the radio lights up with power and scans stations like normal, just no sound. Either way changing them won't hurt. There is no cd changer on the system so is there still an amplifier at the back? Technican: Yes, there is still an amplifier at the back. The amplifier is powered by the Fuse #1 under the hood.
I'll send the fax for the no CD system. Owner: Got the schematic thanks. The problem is almost certainly in that amplifier or the fuse going to it.You've been a great help thanks again Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
