Technican: These are the code definitions,
OD symbol flashing is a transmission code. will probably need to have it hooked to a OBDII diagnostic reader, which you can buy,
Trouble Code: P0741
Vehicle Qualification: Ford Trucks Explorer 4WD
Description: Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off
Diagnostic Trouble Code Description
Trouble Code: P1741
Vehicle Qualification: Ford Trucks Explorer 4WD
Description: Torque Converter Clutch Engagement Error
one suggestion I have for you is to check the transmission fluid, top it off, perhaps go so far as changing the filter, Might save a lot of money in long run Owner: Local Ammco franchise says that I need a selenoid in the transmission which is $145, but they have to remove the muffler to drop the transmission pan to get at it, which brings the job up to 4 hours of labor plus parts, plus it may need a tourque converter. Does this sound like the repair for this problem, I realize that without seeing the vehicle you have no way of knowing except for those codes.
Any suggestion would be helpful.
Gavin Renz Technican: As you say? Without seeing the vehicle I have no idea if the AAMCO franchise is right? It is highly possible that they are, but, common sense tells us to try cheaper avenues first. This particular vehicle has many glitches, especially with the transmission. Replacing expensive parts may turn out to be a wasted of money. Do try replacing the fluid and the transmission filter first. Fluid is very cheap and if you do replace or have the filter replaced, as long as the transmission is clean, there would be no need to replace the filter again with future repairs. One thing you havent mentioned is how the transmission is working, besides the codes flashing? Is it shifting correctly? or slipping? Are there any strange noises? As I stated before this particular model vehicle does have many glitches and this could be one of them. Try what I suggested first, then reset the computer, and run the diagnostics again. Owner: The car is driving fine, though it seems to shift a bit roughly. I had the car looked at at the local ford dealer too and they came up with the same thing. I know very little about transmissions, hence the ambiguity. Thanks for your time and knowledge.
Gavin Technican: Im sorry I cant give you a definite diagnosis with out inspection of the vehicle. As for being ambiguous thats fine, and perfectly understandable given the technology put into the transmissions these days. I would have to concur with the other mechanics since both came up with same conclusion. Owner: Thanks for your help
