1999 Ford Explorer Failing - Engine
Question: My son threw a piston rod in his 1999 Explorer (4.0L SOHC). I replace it with a junk yard engine, but after connecting everything correctly (I hope), it will not start... just cranks. I have verified fuel and spark but still no luck. Someone mentioned that when replacing the engine, there is a "code" that needs to be reprogrammed. Does that sound right? or am I missing something else that you can think of? Any help you can give is appreciated. I'm stuck! Thanks.

Technican: You say you have verified fuel, by this do you mean 'Fuel Pressure' and/or 'Injector Pulse'?
You need fuel pressure (pump runs) and injector pulse (positive voltage supply from fused power and negative 'pulse' from PCM). Owner: Thanks for your quick reply Douglas. You hit the nail on the head. When I tried a small squirt of Starting Fluid, it tried to start... telling me I was not getting fuel into the cylinders. So I had pressure from the pump, but that's it. I pulled the junk yard injectors, cleaned and re-installed the originals and it started right up. I'm a happy camper now. Thanks again... and Happy New year ;) Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
