Technican: 56K miles is very low for problems like your describing unless the engine has lived a very hard life. Has the engine had the oil changed every 3 - 5000 miles like recommended? When was the last oil change and what did the oil look like? Finally, did this problem start all at once or gradually? These answers will help point to the next response. Al Owner: the noise started when i had an minor accident the oil has been changed every 3500 miles runs perfect uses no oil Technican: Very good to hear. You mentioned that noise began after a minor accident. Is there any chance that the exh is tapping on something until it warms up? If that is not an option, then I would flush the engine, change the oil, and replace the filter to see what possibly changes. Also does your truck have an oil pressure gage or just a light? Al Owner: i have just found that there was a recall on the cam timing chain tensioners on the sohc engine i am thinking the hydraulic tensioners are bleeding down when i shut it off what do you think ? Technican: There is an excellent chance that the problem is the tensioners are bleeding down.. that was why I asked if the problem came on slowly or just appeared. Slowly is a good indication the pressure valve in the lifters is failing.. if suddenly then it leads towards other potential problems. As far as the recall that will cause your timing chain to get slack and break.. a bad thing of course.. but the lifter tick is a different thing. I recommend an oil flush and change.. see what happens next. Al Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
