Technican: Hello, There is little doubt that the shift linkage bushings are worn, or, missing. You should be able to take your linkage to a national parts chain store to match new bushings to the linkage. The shift linkage runs from the bottom of the steering column under the hood to the transmission. Look at the shift arms that are fitted to the transmission. The flat metal arms, not the linkage rods. Find a hole in each arm to stab a bolt, screwdriver (whatever fits snug) through to in sure the arms are locked in NEUTR for linkage alignment. Install the new bushings on the shift rods and fit them in place with the steering column shift arms with the column shift in NEUTR, also. See what you have after you remove your arm alignment tool of choice at the trans. Have you tried for your needs? Done a search engine web search for Clasic Ford Truck Parts?
