1973 Ford F-100 Pick-up Malfunction - Chassis, Suspension & Steering

Question: I have a 73 ford f-100 4x4 with power drum brakes and the self adjusters do not seem to be working properly, I was told that they didn't really work good to start with. What can I do to fix this problem and what would I need to change to upgrade to disc on the front?
