1984 Ford F-150 Pick-up Stalling - Electrical & Lighting Systems

Question: Truck will run while key is turned over to start. As soon as key is turned to "run" position - it dies immediately. At first truck would not start at all - until I replaced burned out wire between solenoid and alternator. thank you

Technican: Hi; Sounds like you might of fried the ignition switch when the wire shorted out. Usually what happens is the contacts in it get burned up. I would pull the ignition switch which should be located under the dash on the side of the steering column and take a look at it. If it looks like is burned out or sometimes they will smell burned out. I would replace it. .
Owner: I should elaborate more. I did replace the ignition switch. The key switch moved so roughly that I thought the ignition switch could be the reason. However when I dropped the steering column - I had too little access for my test meter - so I just replaced the ignition switch as it was only a $10 part. My manual is pretty good - and I followed a lot of the troubleshooting stuff for the components. I was hoping someone would know an easy answer for me - but it sounds like it could be any of many things. One test pointed to the ballast resister wire being bad, and I could not find it in the passenger compartment like it said. I towed it up to the local shop - and I will update you with what they find. I have no more time I can devote to this. Thank you though for trying.
