Technican: There is an electrical connector at the distributor with a plug in it, it is called a "spout" connector, remove the plug and adjust the timing as normal with a timing light onto the timing marks at the crank pulley. Has to be done at operating temperature and then do NOT forget to put the "spout" connector back into place!
Owner: How can i adjust the timing when it has no vaccum advance only electronic parts? The timing light shows that it is so far out of time I can not pick up the markings for the #1 cylinder.
Technican: Read This!! Technican: I already told you how to adjust/check the timing, read this again, why did you release the question, this is the answer! Owner: You did not answer my reply
Technican: You are correct in saying that there is NO vacuum, you need to find the "electrical" connector, it is callled a "spout Connector" at the distributor, it has a plastic type plug in it.Once you find it, slightly loosen off the distributor shaft, run the truck to operating temperature, take out the plug I just told you about at the distributor and then check the timing with a timing light at the crankshaft pulley markings, just like a "normal" car/truck with vacuum, turn the distributor until you get your proper timing, turn off the engine, tighten the distributor back up, then put the "plug" back into the connector at the distributor and then you are finished. Is this enough info for you now?
Owner: NO
Owner: The problem seems to be that there is no way to advance the TFI-4 distributor. What actual part has to be loosened to adjust the timing? The manual I have does not specify how to adjust the TFI-4 distributor.
Technican: Usually, without a lot of internal work, although this is a very minor adjustment, loosen and move the distributor. You will not get much change this way, but it beats replacing the camshaft. If the very minor change in the distributor is not enough, then you need to go a lot further, starting with the camshaft. This is serious stuff, proceed with care, and in small amounts.
