Technican: Hello, The solenoid for shift lock is controlled by the brake light switch. The brakelight switch is adjustable. If you can test the shiftlock solenoid for power when the key is on and the brake pedal is pressed you can tell if the brakelight switch is sending the power. If it is and the solenoid won't work, you'll need one. If it is not receiving power but fuses are good, the brakelight switch is suspect. The solenoid is on the steering column near where the shift cable connects to the shifter linkage. It will have one electrical connector. Minor adjustment is possible. To disable it simply remove it. I doubt any shop would disable this safety feature for liability reasons. Consider fixing it to help prevent an accidental movement of the shifter that could leave you liable. One last thought. If you turn your ignition key from "LOCK" to "OFF" you can apply the brakes, shift to neutral, start the truck, select your gears as needed and go where you please. Everytime! This is how you "override" the shift lock to go places that a failed solenoid would hinder. Your thoughts?,
Owner: replaced the brake light switch and found a loose wire this was why i could get into gear sometimes and not others i did use my spare key for a week and did not put the truck into park worked ok but was afraid somepne would just drive it off. thanks how do i pay you.
Technican: Thank you! Good job, Sir. Your screen should have an option for you to click on "OK" if you want to "pay the mechanic". I do not get to see this option and I cannot pay myself, or charge you as I am independent of . I have no authority at all. If you do not see the option to pay me please e-mail Mr. at .com and tell him you want to authorize payment. Mark is the Site Administrator and he can override a glitch. Thanks again,
