1988 Ford F-250 Pick-up Malfunction - Fuel System

Question: I have a truck that starts and then quits after a couple of minutes. fuel filter is new. I checked the fuel pressure with just the key on and it is about 25psi and drops. when the truck is running it is a little lower and drops as the truck dies. if i wait a couple of minutes it will start again but do the same thing etc. Is that a bad fuel pump if so is it the inline one or the one in the tank. if it is the one in the tank i have read you should replace both of the pumps in the tank (2 tanks) is that true

Technican: I do not recommend changing the fuel pumps. The chance of both pumps failing in the manner you describe is unreal. I think you problem is acutally in the fuel pressure regulator. I am assuming the engine is fuel injected. First lets check the vacuum lines to the fuel regulator.. no problems lets put a vac gage inline and check to see if the vacuum falls off. I think you will find the fuel pressure regulator is failing and needs replaced. Let me know if I can be further help.
Owner: changed the fuel pressure regulator. did not help any. any more ideas

Owner: same thing happens the other tank leaks so i did not put any fuel in it to see if the same happens. could it be the inline pump not holding the pressure
Owner: I was not aware that only one tank was in use. Yes it could be the fuel pump. The intank pump should be interchangeable. Let me know.
