1989 Ford Mustang GT Malfunction - Electrical & Lighting Systems

Question: I just bought this car and am having trouble with the Oil Pressure Gauge and the Fuel Gauge not reading properly. I went to my local Ford Dealer and they told me it was most likely a voltage regulator that is located behind the speedo/inst. panel. I have replaced the regulator however it did not fix the problem. Any Ideas??

Technican: Hi, I believe I can help you with your guage problem. First, let me announce my assumptions. I am assuming all the other guages are working properly. I am assuming that the "voltage regulator" is the same as the "slosh module". I am also assuming that both guages act up at the same time. The fuel guage and the oil guage share the same power wire as the other guages. However, they have their own wire coming into the connector behind the cluster. It is identified as pin 11 and is a red/yellow wire. They also share the same ground as the other guages, but again have their own connector identified as pin 12, a black wire. Since the other guages share the same wire but a different connector, your problem will likely be in the connector pin 11 or 12, or the short wire from the connector to the splice where it joins the other wires from the guages. Pull the cluster out and with the key on, wiggle the wires to pin 11 and 12 and find which one makes it act up. It is also possible that the circuitry on the back of the cluster is bad or cracked. This could be soldered or replaced. P.S. The regulator or slosh modlue cannot make the oil guage act up, only the fuel guage. Best wishes,
