1994 Ford Mustang GT Vibration - Engine

Question: My son's 1994 Mustang GT, 5.0, 5spd., has a "horrible entire car shaking vibration" at all rpm ranges, esp. 1000 rpm. (once, the idle dropped down and it smoothed out for a "split second") Problem started when he started it up, prior it was okay. He had installed a performance chip in the intake, which we pulled out, and problem still exists. Had Ford recalibrate the computer, no change, they said it was plugs. I changed plugs, ck'd. plug wires, no change. Had an expert mechanic check it, and said it appeared to be a clutch problem/vibration. I pulled the flywheel and clutch and cannot find any visible problems. (I forgot to mark the flywheel and I read the 5.0 is externally balanced, will be a problem when I re-install the flywheel?) I am having the flywheel resurfaced & balance ck'd., (or should I replace the flywheel?) replacing the pressure place, disc, throw-out bearing, pilot shaft bushing. The mechanic said the harmonic balancer appeared okay, but could the key have sheared and locked the balancer off center as a possiblity? When I get the clutch replaced and the problem still exists, what then? Engine problem? Will appreciate your help. Stephen

Technican: The flywheel should be okay if you have it resurfaced and checked by a competent professional. On the engine, how is the engines power? How did the old plugs look? Has fuel economy suffered since the problem arose? Any strong exhaust smell (or black smoke)? If the problem persists after repairs check that all cylinders are working. Do a compression test or ground the plug wires one at a time to see if you have any dead cylinders."
Technican: Yes, it's no problem to wait until next week.
Owner: The replaced plugs were all good, gap was okay. No smoke or rich gas smell from the exhaust. Did not want to drive the car anymore than necessary, except to get it home when problem started, the vibration and shaking is so violent, so I would not know about the gas mileage. I guess that there is not much more to check until I get the new clutch put in and see if the problem was due to the clutch. Can I put this on hold till sometime next week when I get done? Thank You, Stephen
Owner: I believe I found the problem. I checked the vibration damper and found I could turn it, guess the rubber inside separated. Picked up an OEM replacement from Ford, also told their Service Dept. with that severe a vibration, they should have been able to diagnose the damper as the problem. Anyway, I haven't put it in yet as I am still putting the clutch & trans back. Any tips on installing the damper. I borrowed the special "puller", but do I need to set the #1 piston on TDC or anything like that? Or just put it on? Appreciate hearing from you. Stephen
Technican: Just align the keyway and slide it on. Just make sure the key is not missing. I agree, with the car right in front of them they should of been able to determine the problem. Or at the very least, shouldn't of overlooked the most common problem.
