1995 Ford Mustang GT Malfunction - Ignition System

Question: Last night I turned my key off and the engine kept running normal. I can switch between run and off acc ect and nothing happens. Its a manual transmission so I choked it down with the clutch to stop the engine. I then restarted the engine and the switch still wont stop the engine in the off position. I took the switch module off and its ok. The rod in the sterring colum with the hole in it that moves the switch pin moves foward when you turn the key to start BUT does not retract the rod when you turn the key to the off position. I could stick my finger in at the bottom of the hole that the rod slides in and push the rod back as I turned the switch off and when I turned it to the run or start position it would move foward. it seems that something broke or disconnected between the switch and the rod that retracts the rod. Have you ever heard of this and how do you go about repairing this?

Technican: Hello, The ignition lock cylinder has a gear on the end of it that meshes with an actuator (commonly called a rack). This actuator engages the ignition switch actuator rod that extends down the column to the ignition switch to operate it as called for by rotating the ignition key. One of these parts has broken or became disengaged from the others. I might be able to get a drawing (exploded view) showing what to look for. Do you have a FAX number? You'll need to take the trim off from around the ignition lock cylinder and tilt column mechanism to perform repairs. How shall we proceed to help you?
Owner: I've already removed the trim wheel ect. what I need to know is the repair procedure for this part. I can just keep taking things apart until I reach the broken part but would pay for specific steps to repair this.
Technican: Do you have a FAX number? Would a cover sheet be needed? I have STEERING COLUMN OVERHAUL proceedures copied from The Mitchell 1 Auto Repair Data Base I can fax to you for your approval.
Owner: No cover sheet is needed, 706-322-3511. You can fax anytime. Thanks
Technican: Will the three page fax I sent you help? Please advise.
Owner: I received the fax but no specifics as to the repair of the rack and rod that acuates to switch. this was a teardown procedure of the sterring colum. I need to know the specific steps to repair the rack and slide pin. Not a general dissembly guide
Technican: "I must not have what you are looking for. The overhaul procedure I sent would disassemble the column to a state where one could see by reasoning when and how the broken part could be replaced. A digital camera photo record would help with detail as the teardown proceeds. Feel free to release the question so that others may try to help you. I'm sorry, I tried. "
Technican: Will you please update the status of this question?
