2001 Ford Mustang GT Upgrade - Electrical & Lighting Systems

Question: MY NAME IS MATT, I DID A V6 TO A V8 MOTOR SWAP ABOUT 2-3 MONTHS AGO, I DID EVERYTHING THAT I WAS TOLD TO DO AND SO FOUND SOME OTHER THINGS AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE. I RAN INTO A PROBLEM RELATED TO THE WIRE HARNESS. THE COMPUTER IS THE CORRECT ONE FOR THE MOTOR THAT I GOT BUT THE HARNESS HAS TO BE DIFFERENT, AS I WAS TOLD BY THE SHOP MECHANIC THAT I TOOK IT TOO. WHEN I PLUG THE HARNESS INTO THE COMPUTER THAT I HAVE FOR THE V8, I GET SPARK BUT THE FUEL PUMP AND INJECTORS ARE NOT GETTING ANYTHING. WHEN I THEN PUT THE V6 COMPUTER BACK IN, THE FUEL PUMP KICKS ON AND THE MOTOR WANTS TO START BUT OBVIOUSLY THE TIMING AND NUMBER OF SPARK PLUGS IS INCORRECT SO IT DOESN'T START. I'VE CLED NUMEROUS FORD DEERS AND OTHER MECHANIC SHOPS AND NO ONE I MEAN NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO HELP ME. THE ONLY THING I GOT WAS FROM THE MECHANIC THAT WORKED ON IT SAID THE HARNESS IS THE WRONG ONE FOR THE YEAR AND MODEL MOTOR AND COMPUTER I HAVE. BUT NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHICH HARNESS I NEED, CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE HELP ME???? I'VE TRIED ABOUT EVERYTHING. THE COMPUTER CODE IS 1R3F-12A650-MC AND THE HARNESS NUMBER I HAVE IS 1R33-12A581 AGAIN CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME ON WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SO I CAN FINLY DRIVE MY PRIDE AND JOY AGAIN, THANKS MATT

Technican: Have you checked for injector pulse using noid light yet.If you have no injector pulse the engine won't run.Is the crank sensor mounted correctly and attached at the correct EEC input? You will need a EEC computer terminal schematic. If you can tell me what Year and engine size in Litres both motors are/were.I can pull schematics and tell you what goes where.was there any tranny conversion as well?Do you have and know how to use a DVOM?This really sounds like the EEC just needs it's crank position signal.Lets fix it.
Owner: ITS A 2001 3.8 LITER V6 AND THE 2001 V8 4.6 LITER. IM GETTING INJECTOR FIRE WITH THE V6 AND THE FUEL PUMP KICKS ON BUT WITH THE COMPUTER AND WIRE HARNESS FOR THE V8, IM GETTING SPARK BUT NO FUEL PUMPTO KICK ON OR THE INJECTORS TO FIRE. AND NO I RELY DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE A DVOM.
Technican: That's out then. You are going to have to find the correct harness as per your original request.Then..re-program the Computer.I guess you already took care of the rear and the tranny issues right?Insurance will be deadly on it and will probably require a special emmission inspection to make sure it's legal as far as the Dept. of health and State is concerned. That or wait till they catch it and go to jail possibly.I had a difficult time finding any harness for it with my parts sources.I tried for a manual and an automatic and came up empty as well.I'll leave the question open for other Mechs.Maybe one of them has had success with this. to you.
Owner: I TOOK CARE OF THE TRANNY PROBLEM BUT THE REAR END, NOT YET, IVE BEEN DOING THIS ON A BUDGET, THE GOOD THING IS I HAVE A MOTORCYCLE TO RIDE WHILE THE CAR IS DOWN, I JUST LOVE MY MUSTANG AND WANT TO DRIVE IT AGAIN. I'M WAITIN ON THE INSURANCE PROBLEM UNTIL THE CAR ACTULY RUNS. I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP, IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR WIRE HARNESS CODES TO FIND OUT WHICH ONE MATCHES THE COMPUTER THAT I HAVE? AGAIN THANKS FOR THE HELP

Technican: hey i would try following the wires and see if there is anything wrong with them. and if there is then there is your problem, but if not then it just might be the wires all together and you might have to get whole new wiing harness
Technican: how is it going
Owner: Not any better then the earlier, i've checked it all. the v6 computer when plugged in turns the fuel pump on, but when i plug the v8 computer in the fuel pump will not kick on. I'm going to buy another harness from the computer to the motor and see if that will work, if not do you think i could wire an auxilary switch to the pump that i can flip when i turn the key and then i can turn the key all the way and the car would run fine? The only thing is there is i'm not sure if the injectors are firing. Everything is working when the v6 computer is in, the car wants to start but obviously its a v8. when the v8 computer is put in everything seems to work except the fuel pump. hopefully i can get this running in the next month, driving my bike all the time is becoming painful
Technican: see with changing engines you have to pretty much change out everything, because of power and because it is totaly different. so i would say get a new computer (v-8) then try to get a new fuel pump to go with the engine. just with changing the eninge size means your going to have to change a lot of different things.
Technican: What have you tried since the last correspondence? When you changed the wiring harness, was this from the engine (sensors, etc) all the way to the pcm? Where did you buy your parts from and where did you get the information from that you followed for the conversion?
