When i slow the car down, the clicking gets slower, eventually stopping when the car is stopped. it is driving me nuts. I have had a mechanic adjust the cable but I am still getting the clicking sound. It doesnt happen all the time1965 Mustang Electrical & Lighting Systems MalfunctionHello:I recently had a Painless wireing harness (part 201120) installed in my 1965 Mustang Coupe. The car has gauges (vs idiot lights). Things were good for a month or so, they one day when I started the car, all the guages moved fully to the right and stayed there. When I turn the car off, they return to their state of rest on the left. All guages are affected. I presume this is a ground or short problem, since it is affecting all of them. Also, nothing else on the car is affected. Everything else works fine. My question is, where should I look first? Is there a ground wire connection on the instrument cluster itself? Does it sound like something came loose, or maybe a short? I don't want to tear out the cluster if there is another, logical place to look first. Thanks for any help you can give me. The bendix does not seem to want to come out. The trans is a C-4 out of a 70 Maveric. I have installed 3 new flexplates and 2 starters and they all do the same thing. Started again & same thing. Then wouldn't start. I thought starter went out because sounded like not engaging when turning. Replaced starter. Waste of $. Thought timing problem. Plenty juice in coil, but no spark in plugs. Changed cap, rotor, and module. Thought module because of this happening all of a sudden. Then thought that since I had intermittent problems with power loss @ 70-75 on interstate that maybe module had been breaking down. Had to pull distributer to replace module. I think I turned the teeth out of whack, or at least have firing order out of whack. I have gas, and fire, but no start. Not even customary spit back from carb telling me timing is off. I even had to buy a special tool just to remove & replace module. And you can't find a distributer wrench (11/16th) for it anywhere. That part was fun. Now: What is firing order and/ or what else should I do short of calling a mechanic to add to the $200 I've already spent? What about the piece in distributer that module plugs into? I wouldn't be getting spark from plugs if that was bad would I? Please help if you can.Thank you At wits end. 1986 Mustang Ignition System Won't StartI have a 1986 302 carberated engine in a 1986 jeep cj-7. It also has an accel super coil. The battery is holding a charge of 12.4 and a small charge is reaching the distributor but there is no spark reaching the plugs.I have replaced all of the plug wires, the spark plugs and the rotor button. This weekend my car died while excelerating from a stoplight and my balast resistor might have been shorting to the fendor because it was cracked in half. Now i am getting 12 volts to my coil but i am only getting 12 volts out of the coil. So far I have put a new computer/relay by computer/and a new coil. The coil is good. No bad fuses. and i also changed the Ignition relay on the side of the distributor. When it first broke, the tach would go crazy when i tried to start it up. Could this be my distributor? Can I check my distributor resistance? Also does a coil need a ballast resistor to run. Would not restart from jumper cables. Re-started by rolling and dropping the clutch. On teh way home smoke started coming out from under the dash. Got home and turned off. Checked wiring that was exposed and found no problems. Tried to restart yesterday, after replacing the starter. While turning the key, no click or attempt to start occurred. Smoke from under the dash returned. Currently pulling the dash to look at wiring. I used the original dash harness and changed the computer harness with a speed density V8 harness (came out of an 88 hatch). Made connections, plumbed everything. Turned the key, fuel pump doesn't prime system. Checked relay, it was fine, but I replaced it anyway, check the pump, it works great. I'm not sure where to go from here? Supposedly the two harnesses are going to work interchangibly, but so far, i've had headaches. Suggestions? Thanks!1989 Mustang Engine Chuggingwaking car up from 5 year nap. Engine is a rebuild with only 28, 000. have installed new plugs. is getting air. removed gas tank and dumped old gas. fuel pump is working. exhaust not a problem. Even dumped fuel system cleaner in it. New battery. Problem: when you can get it to start it will set there and chug. Eventually you can give it enough gas to get the RPM, s up and it sounds great then you let it back down to an idle and it will run good and then for no apparent reason start to chug and die. Then won't start again until turned over several times. seems to be getting fire. looked at vaccum for leaks(none that are obvious. Hope this is enough info. Got a suggestion??1989 Mustang Drive Train & Driveline MalfunctionMy problem is with the transmission. It will go into reverse fine. It was going into drive slowly 10-15 second hesitation now it will not go into drive at all. I have changed the fluid and filter but it has not helped. This did not start untill I had new exhaust put on (4weeks ago). Can not see any connection unless they knocked some connection to transmission loose. I believe its the A4LD the mustang is an 89 with at 2.3 any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh when it does go into drive, last time was several days ago and had to wait almost 3 minutes. It drives fine. upshifts and downshifts normally. That is the confusing part to me. I came back two days later and tryed to restart it, which failed, so I added another 3 gallons. The ignition cranked but would not start, eventually the battery stopped cranking and when jumped it starting cranking again, but still wouldn't start. Six months or a year ago, the radiator was replaced because of a leak. Recently, I have noticed an odor of antifreeze outside the car after driving. The radiator appears to stay full, but the reservoir requires frequent filling. The temperature guage fluctuates wildly and the climate control never heats up appreciably. I have not noticed cloudiness in the oil, nor do I see white exhaust while at speed. I am a "shade tree mechanic." I have bought a thermostat under a hunch. If it does prove to be this, could you advise me as to the installation. Has a high pitch squealing especially when idling and low mph, eases off some when pick up speed. Have replaced the belt twice since this has been squealing (over a year), the bearings in the alternater, and now a water pump. Still squealing. I then replaced the powertrain control module(pcm), know the car want start, engine turnover but want start. all parts from same year model.1997 Mustang Chassis, Suspension & Steering MalfunctionI have a '97 ford Mustang 2 door coupe (hardtop) with a 3.8 232 cid engine and ABS brakes. The problem I have started when I tried to replace the brake pads on the car myself. For the rear calipers I turned the piston into the caliper and put the o.e.m. brake pads on. I had all four rotors turned at a local parts store. In the front is a single piston in each caliper that I was able to use a c-clamp and press the piston in and replace the brake bads. I did not have the cap off the master cylinder and never opened the bleeder screws at any time during the brake pad replacement process. When I put the car back together I had a really low pedal and the vehicle did not want to stop. I then tried bleeding the system but this did not fix the problem. I took to a local garage and they were able to bleed the system and get a lot of air out according to them. The vehicle would stop but the pedal was still really low. I took it to the dealer for their diagnoses and they told me the rear calipers were bad. I had them replace them and afterwards the dealer told me the master cyclinder was bad. Instead of relying on the dealer I took to a local garage known for their braking expertise and the local garage replaced the master cyclinder but I am still having a low pedal and the pedal is not hard when pressed; like before I did the brake job. Please help!!! It is my wife's car and it has been 4 months and I still haven't been able to get the problem fixed. Please help!!!1998 Mustang Engine Hesitatingim having problem starting car in the morning and when its been sitting for a while. it used to start once you hit the key but now it just cranks and while it cranks sometimes it pops, like a backfire. i know u dont pump the gas on fuel injected cars but if i pump it alot and hold it when i hit the key then it will turn on. but it still hesitates and i have to hold down the gas for the rpm to go up.i know a little bit about sensors and all and i belive it might be the fuel pump, fuel regulater, and someone said about the mass airflow sensor but how would i know . hook it up please1998 Mustang Electrical & Lighting Systems OtherThe power buttons on both doors won't unlock the doors, but will lock the doors. The radio suddenly stopped working so I pulled the fuses out one by one and they were all fine. After that the radio starting working. Then a couple of days later the radio stopped working...did the fuse check again (pulling them out and putting them back in place) and it came back on. Now it has stopped again and pulling fuses isn't working anymore. Have vacuum bled the system twice and replaced also the Master cylinder (twice) All this began when we replaced the front pads. This was done in a timely fashion and the calipers and rotors are in excellent condition. When finished, we get a soft, really soft, pedal. On advice, we replaced the Mstr Cyl, twice in case the first one was bad. I'm out of ideas, and the rear pads/calipers/rotors are also in excellent shape.
