Question: Sometimes after I turn my car off, my battery will drain, even if all lights and electrical are off, Ive gotten a new battery, starter solenoid, and alternator, however I did upgrade to a new electronic ignition, and a modern stereo, do I need to upgrade my alternator? It doesnt happen all the time

Technican: What it sounds like is you are geting what is called a "Phantom Draw". Does' the new stereo that you installed have a fuseable link? If so, disconnect it for a day or so and see if it may be the culprit. I'm thinking that the system you installed has a full display that may be drawing more power than your fuse block should be allowing. Your alternator dosen't seem to be a factor to me unless you have had it checked to see if it is putting out its full rated amperage in a running mode.
Paul Owner: I dont have the stereo routed through the fuse box, it has 2 hot legs and a ground one is connected directly to the positive side of my starter solenoid the other is to my ignition switch could that be the problem? also I found out my alt is only a 51amp is that enough for stereo and electronic ignition? Technican: Why they routed one of your hot legs to the pos of your starter is beyond me. I have always installed legs to accsesory and run on the fuse block unless I wanted uninterupped power to unit which I would do so by switching to an aux power supply.
