Owner: i have a 1986 mustang 2.3 1bbl carb. when at idle it runs rough, at 2000rpm it is smooth i will like to know what the problem is. it has new sparkplugs, wires, rotor and cap.help me out!!!!
Technican: You might try to check for vacume leaks and also your O2 and MAP sensors.It sounds as if the engine is maybe starving for a little air or the backpressure in the exhaust my be your problem.You say its carbureted so check around the bases of the carb and manifold for leaks.

it hesitates when idling it wants to cut off.i I disconnected the idle control valve and it ran better connected it and the same thing! I got a new one and the same. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Technican: Again, exhaust may be an issue here.When idling, if the proper amount of expulusion is not achieved, hesitation will occur.The O2 and MAP read this.The ECM is probably recieving a code that is either telling it to cut back or overfeed fuel due to combustion readings from these sensors.
