Technican: Need to check to see if spark is lost during no start. Need to know what size engine you have? Or at least how many cylinders? The ignition systems differ with engine size.
Owner: My Mustang is a V8 There is plenty of power from the battery. I have had the IAC and the fuel pump replaced but still have the problem.
Technican: Sorry for the delay, I've had trouble connecting to the internet. Does the check engine light come on with key turned to the on (engine not cranking) position (as it normally does) during the no start period? If it does NOT, concentrate on the ignition switch and then the PCM (computer). If the light behaves normally this is when you need to use a spark tester and check for spark. If spark is present: Listen for the fuel pump running. If the pump don't run check the fuel pump relay. If the pump does run check for injector pulse to the fuel injectors. If injector pulse is lost the PCM inputs/outputs will need to be measured. Now, if there is no spark to the plugs concentrate on the igntion module (ICM). and PIP (camshaft sensor in distributor). Autozone (and others offer off car testing of ignition modules, coils, etc) but I don't know how long you car won't start for. I would guess not long engough to remove the part and have it tested. I can offer you free online troubleshooting procedures if you have an electrical tester (DVOM) and want to try it. Or if you want to buy a digital multimeter (you can get one for under ten dollars at walmart). Troubleshooting is necessary to pinpoint this problem. Remember does engine light appear as it normally does? Can you hear the fuel pump run during no start? Also if your check engine light stays on when engine is running the trouble codes need to be retrieved. Autozone and maybe others often do this for free.
