1996 Ford Mustang Won't Start - Engine

Question: I replaced a manuel transmission with an electronically controlled automatic transmission, alone with the harness, torque converter, flywheel, driveshaft shifter and cable.Filled trans. with oil but only the reverse gear worked. I then replaced the powertrain control module(pcm), know the car want start, engine turnover but want start. all parts from same year model.

Technican: You may have blown a fuse while changing the pcm. Is the check engine light coming on when you first turn the key on, as it normally does? Do you hear the fuel pump prime and normal array of clicking relays? Do you have spark?
Owner: The check engine light does not come on, feul pump is priming, don't here any relays clicking. How do I check spark plug for fire?
Technican: You will need to check the fuses. If the check engine light is not coming it is to be expected that you won't have spark. The PCM may not be compatible. Use the following link for an online repair guide. The guide will give instructions on things like checking for spark with a spark tester- autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=RG001&UserAction=viewRepairGuideYMMEYear
Owner: The PCM came off of the same year model(1996)alone with the tranny, converter, flex plate, wire harness. One last Question Doug, how can I find out if the PCM is compatible or not?
Technican: If the check engine light will not come on with one PCM but will with the original that is a good sign they are not compatible. The dealer may be able to program your original computer to work with the automatic transmission. Have you checked the fuses? I recommend buying a subscription to Ford service (I think ten dollars for a day or two) for the in depth information you'll need to troubleshoot the problem. I can provide a link if you need it. Another option is to buy a repair cd from ebay (search for 'mustang factory repair cd', they have some great deals). Either way you'll have the same information the dealership uses.
