1997 Ford Mustang Malfunction - Chassis, Suspension & Steering
Question: I have a '97 ford Mustang 2 door coupe (hardtop) with a 3.8 232 cid engine and ABS brakes. The problem I have started when I tried to replace the brake pads on the car myself. For the rear calipers I turned the piston into the caliper and put the o.e.m. brake pads on. I had all four rotors turned at a local parts store. In the front is a single piston in each caliper that I was able to use a c-clamp and press the piston in and replace the brake bads. I did not have the cap off the master cylinder and never opened the bleeder screws at any time during the brake pad replacement process. When I put the car back together I had a really low pedal and the vehicle did not want to stop. I then tried bleeding the system but this did not fix the problem. I took to a local garage and they were able to bleed the system and get a lot of air out according to them. The vehicle would stop but the pedal was still really low. I took it to the dealer for their diagnoses and they told me the rear calipers were bad. I had them replace them and afterwards the dealer told me the master cyclinder was bad. Instead of relying on the dealer I took to a local garage known for their braking expertise and the local garage replaced the master cyclinder but I am still having a low pedal and the pedal is not hard when pressed; like before I did the brake job. Please help!!! It is my wife's car and it has been 4 months and I still haven't been able to get the problem fixed. Please help!!!
