1994 Ford Probe Other - Engine
Question: Manual transmission.
When warm the car idles irradically . some times it goes up to 2, 000 rpm then back to normal rpm.
It also has a slight hesitation when driving, if I back off the gas and then press down to accelerate. Its not a gear slip.

Technican: Hello, What engine, how many miles? Any vacuum leaks?
Please advise. Technican: Hello, Remove the rubber flex duct between the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) and the Throttle Body (TB) and inspect it for a split/crack. If you find a split replace this part.
A split in this duct allows air to enter the throttle body that has not first passed through the MAF. This is referred to as "unmetered air". Drives the computer crazy trying to decide how much fuel is needed.
Loose clamps on this duct can have the same effect as the duct is not sealed to the MAF and TB until the clamps are tight.
What did you find?, Owner: NO LEAKS
4 CYL ENGINE
120K MILES Technican: Are you saying "no leaks" in answer to my question about vacuum leaks or "no leaks" in the air inlet duct between the air cleaner/filter case and the throttle body?
Have you looked also at the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) for it's condition and for debris on it's screen?
Are you seeing a Service Engine Soon light? Are there codes stored in history? Are the throttle body bore and butterfly valve clean? Owner: no leaks in the duct from MAF and TB, the clamps were loose so i tightened them.
The problem lessened
1) after two or three irradic moves in idle to 2000rpm it settles down to 1250 and stays there (too high). Before it would just continue to happen
The hesitation is much less obvioius than before Technican: Have you considered disconnecting the battery for ten minutes to reset your car's computer? While the battery is still disconnected hold down the foot brake for one minute and release it.
Reconnect the battery and drive the car normally and see if it settles down to normal.
Please advise. Owner: Idle problem almost gone.
I might go up to 1250 rpm then down to normal. Sometimes it stays at normal and some times it stays at 1250 - 1000rpm. No more large fluctuattions. When it goes up to 1000 or 1250 it either stays there or drops down to normal immediately. this is better than the see/saw previously. Normal idle is kind of rough but nowhere near stall
The hesitation is so slight that its no longer an issue Technican: Sounds like you are gaining control here. Did you disconnect the battery in your efforts? Owner: Yes
Disconnected battery for 10 min held clutch down 1min reconnected battery Technican: It's the brake that should be applied for one minute after the battery has been disconnected for ten minutes, then released and the battery reconnected.
I'm thinking about what else to suggest. Owner: Sorry
I did Battery and brake
It seems that this now only happens when the car is fully warmed up. If I stop for a while then start it while its still warm its ok Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
