Technican: Start by checking the diagnostic trouble codes. This is assuming the check engine light comes on when you first turn on the key (as it normally does).
Technican: Here are instructions on pulling the trouble codes (highlight, edit, copy, and paste the link into your address bar) autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/0f/8e/2b/0900823d800f8e2b.jsp
Owner: Can only get the non running codes and it says it passed, have tryed to disconnect battery let it sit then try to start, it seems as if it coughs once then just spins, no spark at the coil, still looking for the shorting bar, , , (that maybe my problem) it shows on the wiring diagram but I can't find it. everything checks out but I get no spark at the coil
Technican: You are looking for an electrical plug, should be grey (maybe black). It will have have a plug inserted (unless it has been removed) that you can be pulled out. I will check later for a picture if you need one. What problem do you think you are having with it? You said everything checks out, meaning you have key on positive voltage to the coil? And the ignition module has been tested and is okay? Don't overlook electrical connections, engine grounds, etc.
Owner: I believe I have found the shorting bars. found 2 of them both check out OK. Just ran over the wiring of the engine. Found that I am getting spark on the Ehaust side coil, all plugs fire except num."3".On the Intake side coil I am getting no spark at all. Again a rehash of what I have done: new coil on intake side new spark plugs new Hall effect sensor new control module code I get is "11" passed. If I unplug the battery for awhile, then reconnect and try starting it, it seems to cough initally as if it fires "1" cyl. then spins not starting. Have put a timing light on each plug wire to double check what is and what is not firing. Rechecked connections for the Kazillionethed time. Need the vechicle as my wife uses it for work.would take it to a shop but the only way to get it there is tow it, , No$$$$$ Does not make sense that the exhaust side fires, except for num"3" and the intake side doesn't.Checked the coil connections also, they are as they should be checked the fuel switches also. Hope this can shed more light on this prob. Hope you can point me in the right direction, , Thanks Tom.
Technican: Check the ECC relay. Are you aware that some insurance policies cover towing (at least reduce the amount to a reasonable amount. I will get back to you sunday. Experiencing a nasty thunderstorm..
Owner: Usually get up early, you must be out west, your 2 hours behind time. I'm on the east coast.I'll be checkin on the web periodically for your response. By the way, the truck only has 82K miles . wife was driving home an it stopped dead . Know this is not much help, just tryin ta put it in perspective. Have fun in the rain I've had my share and a bunch of others share for awhile.Later
Owner: Found one relay (of the three) that once power is applied(turn the ign key "on") drops back out. It is green and has ESTB 9345 A2A also on the bottom of the same switch is 9FA . checked the power with the switch out and it is constant, when I plug it back in, it goes in then out, I am assuming that the relay is bad, or that once the power is applied that what ever it is powering is causing it to drop back out . Could it be just the relay or something else??
Owner: green one is fuel relay, the other two are staying in . still no spark at the coil < I'm stumped...
