1992 Ford Ranger Pick-up Other - Drive Train & Driveline
Question: I have a 1992 Ranger with a 2.3L 4 cyl w/ 5 speed manual transmission (Mazda). The tranny failed, and I found a tranny from a 1997. Is the only difference that the newer one has an electronic speedometer? If so, can I change the tailshaft and still use my mechanical speedo?
Thanx for your help

Technican: If the nose piece is is a bolt on and all the housing mounts are the same it should work. One thing you really need to check is if the tranny has the same gearing as your old one.If is slightly different, your spedo will register differently.
Paul Owner: I really don't care if the speedo doesn't read properly, I just need to know if the bolt patterns match. The tranny I found is on E bay and it ends in 1 1/2 hrs. I don't want to bid if it won't bolt up. Technican: Sorry, It's Sunday and I don't has access to my interchange guy. There may be a slight difference in the pattern at the slave cylinder.Try and e-mail the seller to see if he can provide any info.
