1997 Ford Ranger Pick-up Malfunction - Heating & Cooling System

Question: The temperature control does not work. I get hot air no matter where I move the selector. Even with the a/c selected I get hot air regardless of where I move the temperature control knob. Any ideas what the problem might be and how to fix it would be appreciated. Thanks. Rob Sturgess

Technican: Hi; Sounds like you got either a bad cable or a vacuum line broke. You did not state which kind of operation it does. Pull out the glove box and looking towards the firewall you should see an arm on top of the box. As you move the control knob the door should open and close. See if you have a vacuum line or a cable. Most of the time if you see it trying to move the best thing is to pull the acess panel for the heater core, which will be right behind the glove box and see if anything that you might of laid on the dash ( pens, pencils, etc. ) has fallen in causing the door to jam open. .
Owner: I have the vacuum line type and pulled the glove box door down and tried to move the door. Saw nothing jammed that would prevent it from moving and I was able to move it but it returned to its original position when I let it go. Any more ideas? Thanks Rob
Technican: Hi; With no vacuum it should be realeased. With vacuum it should be closed. If you disconnect the line and hold your finger over it you should feel the vacuum.If you don't then most likely you have a bad vacuum line or your temp control switch is leaking or not working properly. If you feel vacuum at the line then the motor at the door is bad. .
