Question: My air intake temperature sensor burns out every two months and i have to replace it. I recently converted the stock exhaust to a performance exhaust.

Technican: What do you mean by burns out? Do you get a trouble code for the sensor? Or does it actually test bad? If it is just a code, inspect the connector and inspect the wires.
Owner: no the sensor opens and the code reader reads it as bad. The engine runs very rich and always thinks it is hot. Even when i first start it in the morning. When i test the sensor with a meter the sensor doesn't even make a connection it reads open.
Technican: Where are you buying the sensors?
Owner: i'm buying the sensors at carquest they are solid brass they bolt into the intake on the 2.9l motor but i have to buy them to replace the other one when it burns out or else the motor thinks that it is always hot. Then it floods out.
Technican: Are they under warranty? Other then doing pin out test for shorts at the pcm and inspecting wiring for damaged insulation, checking for proper reference voltage from computer, the only thing left is to replace the sensor) Preferably with an original equipment part from the Ford dealer. Or another supplier. Not uncommon to have repeat failures with aftermarket sensors (among other parts). But I understand dealer costs are sometimes frightening. Check other parts stores to see if they sell motorcraft sensors.
