2002 Ford Ranger Malfunction - Ignition System

Question: Truck turns over with key in ignition, stalls and will NOT start again... "THEFT" light starts flashing like crazy. Key then is unable to start truck. After waiting anywhere from 4 or 5 hours to a day or more, it will start up again. This has happened several times and mechanic can't figure it out. I suspect it has something to do with the key and the anti-theft device. The truck seems to think that I am steeling it. Please help.

Technican: I had already set you my advise but if it did't get to you I can't explain. If it is in fact a 2002 model and depending on when you purchased the vehicle, all safety devises are warranted for 5 years 100, 000 miles. If you fall in those parameters, I suggest you take the vehicle to your local dealer and have them diagnosis the problem. I do recall a service bulletin regarding the door lock mechinism on these vehicles not locking in there proper position. Don't know if this could attribute to your current problem but it might be something to look at. Paul
