1987 Ford Taurus Sticking - Chassis, Suspension & Steering
Question: I have a 1987 Taurus lx station wagon the other day the fornt passenger side disc brake seized up. the caliper is only 2 years old. It let loose by the next day when I pulled the tire off again. A friend told me to put it in reverse and hit the brakes hard. I did and i twasn't seized up when I took the tire off. He said this reset the brakes. I was wondering if he's just feeding me some BS. I just wanted to know if this is a problem with the car or if I should replace the caliper. Any help you could give will be appreciated.
Thank You,
Russ

Technican: I would be surprised to see the method your friend suggested work.
It is possible the caliper is bad again- piston sticking in the bore, slides frozen, etc.
Another somewhat common and often overlooked problem is the brake hose. The brake hose will collapse internally, effectively creating a one way stop valve. Fluid can pass by but not return, this 'trapped' fluid keeps the brake applied. If it is stuck now, simply (slowly, fluid can be hot) crack the bleeder. Does this free up the wheel? If yes there is good chance it is the brake hose. Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
