1988 Ford Taurus Other - Engine
Question: The engine races. While performing an underhood giggle and shake, I found a broken hose connector on the MAP sensor. I replaced that (ouch).

Owner: Has the check engine light been on, and if it was did the light go off after sensor connector replacement?
Did you remove the negative battery cable for a minute or so to reset the computer after repair?
If the check engine light is off you need to check for any vacuum leaks, like the throttle body gasket. You may have already covered vacuum leaks- the next step is to check the idle speed motor. Sometimes they stick open and cause a high idle speed. Cleaning the pintle and it's passeway sometimes will fix the problem. Do you have a repair manual? There is a free online repair manual- if you need the link let me know.
Ouch? Was the connector expensive? Owner: It was not the connector I had to replace, it was the MAP sensor - $141, but the parts guy at he dealer gave me a nice PowerStroke hat for free. No the check engine light has not been on. Yes, please send me the link for a free online manual. I olny paid $500 for the car, so I never got the manual.... Thanx for the quick response. Technican: Hello,
I've re-opened this question at the customer's request. Technican: Thanks Mark.
