1988 Ford Taurus Won't Start - Ignition System
Question: I just change engines on my 1988 Taurus 3.0. The original had 254000 miles on it and I aquired an engine out of a wrecked 1992 Probe. The Probe engine has 54000 miles on it. I changed all of the necessary parts form the original engine to the replacement ie. timing chain cover, oil pan, valve covers, flywheel. It is now back in the car, but I cannot get the engine to start. I have checked for spark which it has, it seems to have fuel present, and I have checked and double checked the timing. When I attempt to start it, it backfires out of the air intake. Is there some other recalibration that is necessary to complete this type of engine swap. Thank You

Technican: the probe engine will not work in a taurus
they have different timing components..while they look the same, when it comes to the electronics, just changing the outer parts (as you have done) will not be enough....the actual block has differences Owner: Is it possible to change the internal timing components to the probe block, and if so what components would need to be changed? Owner: no, you really cant....(without it becoming far more involved and making it economically disasterous) the motors that you can change external stuff for your taurus would be
86-94 taurus or sable
86-94 aerostar
92-4 tempo it would of course have to be the 3.0 Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
