1991 Ford Taurus Vibration - Chassis, Suspension & Steering

Question: Owned Ford Taurus for 5-6 years had only 62, 000 miles when purchased. Now have 124, 000 miles. No major problems with vehicle until about two-three weeks ago. No vibration up to 45-50 miles. Hit 50 to 55 vibration reduces alittle. Vibration picks up again at 55-65 MPH. Not much vibration betwwen 55-65 if I keep it at that speed. Also a engine noise or rattle. Noise DOES NOT increase or decrease whenn accelerating. Just there recently. Had up on lift. Cannot find anything broken. New tires on front. New plugs, cables Distr Cap last fall. Checked catalitic Converter thinking it may be plugged, seems ok. During winter it started to die if I didn't keep foot on pedal. First time it ever did that. Since weather warming up don't have that problem now. Maybe bad lifter, don't know. Engine temp running normal. Has been a great car up to now. Very little repairs needed, replaced muffler and tail pipe, Left PVC boot and axle and one strut (right rear). Considering what I have read on your site, I feel lucky with my Taurus so far. Also no excess oil drip or tran drip. Trans does not slip, grind or anthing. No excess smoke out of exhaust.

Technican: Have the tires inspected and balanced. An alternative to balancing would be to rotate the front and rear tires. While the rear tires may be less than perfect, a change should be noticed if the tires or wheels are the problem. Also with the vehicle safely supported and the tires raised off the ground, see if there is excessive free play when you move the tire back and forth. Also there was a suspension recall on your taurus. Highlight, Edit, Copy, and Paste this link into your address bar and determine if the recalls apply. partsamerica.com/PPF/SourceArea/LEARN/DestinationPage/RecallList.asp/RecallList.asp If it qualifies for recall work that hasn't been performed the dealer mechanic should be able to identify the engine noise. Engine noises are extremely difficult to diagnose without actually hearing. Noises can also be deceiving. Is the noise definitely internal engine? If uncertain you can disconnect the accessory drive belt and see if the noise disappears. If it's internal engine noise describe location of noise, as best as you can. You may wish to shop around and see if you can find a reputable shop that will give a free estimate on the engine noise. Midas and Monroe muffler shops offer free estimates and would be worth considering for the suspension problem. If they tell you any suspension components are worn, have them show you to be certain. The stalling problem in the winter was likely an idle air control motor problem, sensor out of range (coolant temp sensor), or a fuel problem (fuel filter).
Technican: Was the vibration present before tire replacement? Were the tires balanced? Sometimes it's necessary to have a high speed balance performed. Where is the vibration felt (IE, steering wheel, floor boards, etc)? Which engine do you have, 2.5L, 3.0L, or 3.8L?
Owner: Vibration felt in steering wheel and rattles the entire car at times. Tires were put on last fall. No problem before that. Vibration started about 2-3 weeks ago. I have a 3.0 V6
