1994 Ford Taurus Malfunction - Drive Train & Driveline
Question: My daughter's 94 Taurus has developed a prounounced hard downshift upon stopping after driving over 45 mph. It doesn't do this at all when driving at low speeds. Coincidentally the speedomete has taken to intermitent operation. It has about 100k miles on it.What can I check or repair short of removal, R/R? Thanks.

Technican: If you have abad speed sensor, it can cause an intermittent speedometer. It can also cause hard shifts. A simple place to start would be to replace the speed sensor and check the related wiring. There is better than 50/50 chance that will resolve your problem and save you $1000+. Owner: Thanks for your prompt response. If the speed sensor is accessable, I can replace it. What does it look like and where is it located? Thanks. Joel Technican: It is located on the top of the transaxle tail. It is a bit difficult to get to, but is on the top of the transmission extension behind the engine, on the passenger side of the car.
