1995 Ford Taurus Failing - Electrical & Lighting Systems
Question: After parking my car, I nolonger can shift it out of park. I tested as far as I could and found that there is no power making it's wat to the wire that feeds my brakes and high beams. If I run a jumper from another fuse to the one for my brakes, everything works fine. Where does that power come from and how do I check it.

Technican: You have done good homework! You should have power all the time udner the dash on fuse 1 (15a). Use a test lamp and check for power. If no power there (as we believe) check the fuse box under the hood. There should be power at both end of each maxi fuse if you test it while it is plugged in (touch your test light to the stub sticking out the top of each end) Maxifuse 40A is to supply power to the brake lights and hazard lights, etc. This sends power on a yellow wire to the dash fuse box. Most likely the 40A fuse is burnt out. If power is there, check the yellow wire between the 2 fuseboxes for power.
Best wishes, Owner: I already did what you said about checking the large fuses under the hood. I have power on all of them. Using a test light I checked the fuses and probed into the wire and there is power there also. When I probed the yellow wires near the fuse block under the dash, there is no power there. Is there a fusable link that I am missing? Technican: The only thing between the fuse under the hood and the fuse box under the dash is the clarge connector passing through the fire-wall. It is on the LH side of engine compartment, top of wheel well. Terminals: 38 Color: GY. Take it apart, look for burnt or pushed out connectors, find where the heavy yellow wire is, use your test light to see if there is power on the engine side of the harness. If not, the problem is in the dash fuse box, or wire to the big connector. If you have power there, the problem is between that connector and the dash fusebox. Owner: Ok, I found the connector and found a wire that is broken. After I took the connector apart and repaired the wire, now the car will not start. Did I do something? By the way I didn't disconnect the battary first (I was so excited that I found the wire I forgot to disconnect the battary before working on it). The car does crank. Technican: Do the brake lights work now?
It should not have hurt anything to disconnect that connector with the battery connected. Has another wire broken, or have one of the pins become damaged in the connector?
Check your fuses under the hood and dash again. One may have blown.
If you do not find anything there, we will need to start fresh.....DO you have spark? DO you have fuel pressure? does your check engine light come on? Owner: , Everything is ok now. When I was going threw the fuses, I didn't incert the mini fuse in the power distrabution box in the right spot. The car runs good again. Thanks for all your help. Technican: Great!
