1998 Ford Taurus Sticking - Engine
Question: Car coasts a very long time when I let off the throttle from any speed in gear, especially 30-45 mph. Tach doesn't return for many many seconds back to normal idle speed. Also the engine idles at approx 1000 rpm. It this a "normal" thing or do I have a fixable problem?

Technican: rpms are about normal at 850-1000 depending on manual or standard trans.
check and see that your throttle linkage is not sticking or the choke aparatus is not getting caught up and not closing properly.
a little carburator injector cleaner usually clears that up. Owner: I already cleaned all the linkages, throttle body etc... Tonight I removed the fuel/air bypass and cleaned it up. That brought the idle down into the norm about 900 RPM. It helped a little with the coasting, although it still doesnt feel right.Im thinking that is where my problem may be. It is about a $50 gamble.?????? Technican: you may want to buy a can of addative fuel injector cleaner for the fuel tank.
that would also clean out your fuel pressure regulator.
go with the least expensive first
hope it all plays out right for you Owner: Are you saying that the fuel injector cleaner will also clean the pressure regulator? Technican: Yes the fuel injector addative will flush the whole system and fuel does run through the regulator, that part of it will also be cleaned out during normal operation of the fuel system Owner: I was just wondering if this is nothing more than a Taurus tendency as I have talked to a few others who have experienced this similar problem. Technican: I would not link that particular problem to the taurus, although there are some things with tha taurus that are familiar to all tauruses
most taurus owners wish that was the only problem they ran into Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
