Technican: I cant think of anything the garage could have done to the belt when replacing your starter. Your belt was probably cracking and the most that the garage would have done wrong would be not to bring it to your attention. Your Serpentine (drive) belts should be replaced around 60000 miles whether they are cracking or not as a preventative measure... just like changing your oil. Have a new belt put on and make sure that whomever replaces the belts double checks all the pulleys for binding particularly the belt tensioner.. If I can be of further assistance you can contact me direct at upon accepting this response....
ASE Master Tech Owner: Just to be sure, does starter replacement require any lessening of tension on belts to get access? Belt is intact, what would cause it to slip off? What does this belt do? will driving the car approx 3 to garage miles w/o belt on damage engine?
Thanks for your help. These are my last questions. Technican: it is not neccessary to remove the drive belts to replace the starter. If belt is intact I would suspect the belt tensioner as being bad. I would not reccommend driving the car any distance because you stated it was overheating. You have aluminum heads on the engine and they warp very easily. Have it towed or pulled to your repair shop. Technican: how is the car? How was my help? Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
