1991 Ford Tempo Other - Fuel System

Question: well the car idles up an down an misses all the time I put new spark plugs in it an now it runs bad I gaped them on the right spot

Technican: I'm assuming that you have the 2.3 hsc motor in this tempo. This vehicle is bad at having the throttle position sensor going bad. With it out of adjustment or just being bad, you will have the idle surges you are experiencing. The miss is questionable. It most likely is the module on the side of the distributor going bad. Ford's of this vintage have a grey module attached to the side of the distributor. It takes a special tool, 7/64 inch socket to remove it. You can get an inexpensive module from Borg Warner. I am sure that you will find that it is the miss you are having. The idle surges, definately the throttle position sensor. Bill

Owner: well Ihave put a new module on it do you thank it could be bad? I put it on 3mos ago.

Owner: Ok, it could still be in this area. When you put the new module on, did you put the dielectric grease on the metal area on the back of the module? Also, where the 3 prongs on the module go into the distributor, could be faulty. If, you pull the module back off for inspection, check the leads. If they are loose, seem to fit poorly, then maybe you should consider replacing the distributor with a rebuilt. They cost about $60 or so, rebuilt. They don't come with the module, but they have refurbished leads and new pick up coil. I am positive, that this would for sure cure your problem. If you need anything else answered, just ask. Owner: Thank you for the help the sensor worked good no more idleing up an down it does better now but I put a nuther distributor when I put the mod in it im going to let run for a wyell an drive it longer to see if the sensor helped it frist then ill go from there thank you agin.
