1993 Ford Tempo Malfunction - Drive Train & Driveline

Question: 4 cylinder automatic has started not shifting out of low. It does this about every other time we drive it. When it does not shift the speedometer also does not function. The next time I drive it may be fine until I come to a stop sign and then there it goes again not shifting. Car has about 119, 000 miles on it.

Technican: Hi, Sounds like a bad governor drive gear. This is a plastic gear inside the transmission that spins as the car moves and tells the engine when to shift as well as driving the speedometer. When this gear wears enough, it slips and causes these 2 problems. This can be changed without removing the transmission, but it requires some skill.
