1994 Ford Tempo Other - Engine

Question: The engine has been smoking from the air breather on top of the valve cover also from the air cleaner, I also found a little oil build up in the housing of the air cleaner. A mechanic looked at it and told me that there was carbon build up in the exhaust which caused a blockage in the exhaust system. The engine runs very smooth with no hesitation. Is this possible? And if so is this something I can do?

Technican: Excessive backpressure is definately the cause. It can be from a number of different things. If it is the exhause, you can use a good carbon blaster, and use some premium fuel, (chevron with techron) or the like would help. Any good parts store will have the carbon blaster. You can also buy techron in individual bottles from chevron and some parts stores. BG makes a product called 44K which is great. see what you can find on that order and you should be good to go. One other thing tho, you may have bad rings, also causing blowby. Some of the carbon blaster clean rings also. . Bill Johnson
