Technican: The firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6. Rotates counter-clockwise.
Front CYL 1 2 3 (passenger side)
of
Engine CYL 4 5 6
Bring the number 1 cylinder to top dead center. Look at the crank pulley and align the mark with zero on the timing scale. Number one cylinder on the distributor will be the plug tower (on the cap) that the rotor (inside the distributor) points to.
If the car sounds way off at this point you are 180 degrees off. Move the number one plug wire (on the cap) to the position of the where the number 5 cylinder is (straight across).
OR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have a helper follow these instructions. Remove the number one plug. Disable ignition (unplug distributor). Now keep bumping the starter over (as lightly as possible, ). Feel for compressed air being pushed out the spark plug hole. As soon as it does slowly turn the engine until the piston is all the way up (crank pulley lined up with zero on timing scale). Now hook the number one cylinder to plug tower (on the cap) the rotor points to.
This method will assure that you are on the compression stroke (and won't be 180 degrees off). Here's How To Get Guaranteed Solutions In Minutes
