1992 Ford Ranger Pick Up Ranger
As I was backing up and pulling forward in my driveway this afternoon, I noticed I had lost most of the power in first gear, unless idled up. I also noticewd a burning smell in the cab, like brakes. I did not have the brake on. Tied to drive up on ramps this evening to look underneath and could not get enough power to get up on the ramps.

All The Proper Lights Go On In The Dash But The Starter Motor Does Not Turn Over. When This Happens I Sometimes Hold The Key In The Start Position And Then The Car Starts Right Up. Other Times I Have To Let The Key Go Back To Run And Try The Start Position Numerous Times Before The Motor Fires Up. When It Does Start There Is No Hesitation, It Fires Right Up.I Suspect The Actual Ignition Switch Itself. I Have Been Told There Are Points Inside It And After Many Years The Points Get Corroded.My Question Is: Can I Replace The Ignition Switch Itself Without Removing The Key Cylinder?Looking At The Manual It Appears That If I Remover The Steering Wheel, The Upper And Lower Covers, And Nothing Else; That I Can Remove And Replace The Switch.Am I Correct?

my 94 explorer was running then turned right and the engine died,got it started again ,this happened twice more within a hour. parked it for an hour then went out the engine died again and now it wont start at all. engine turns over but wont catch, don't hear fuel pump priming at all.
any ideas ? Also where is the fuel pump located ?

1988 Ford Ranger
After I drive about 35 miles or when the truck has ran 30 to 40 minutes it startes running rough. I have had the rotor, distributor cap, plugs, wires, fuel filter changed and this did not help. I have checked the ar filter and it lookd clean. I had the ignition module checked at autozone, it check good. I have replaced the coil, the fuel pressure regulator and the Idle control switch. I still have the problem. What should I check or do next?
The engine is a v6 2.9

i have a 1999 ford expediton....when i start the engine ...all doors lock including the rear liftgate....but when i stop and get out, i try to use the door locks to unlock the liftgate...it does not work....and when i stop and try to ALL doors and liftgate...the doors lock but the lift gate remains open.....i pressed the 78 90 key on the keyless entry....this does not lock the liftgate either.....i can maually lock the liftgate and like i said the auto locks when the engine is in the on pos locks everything

Electrical problem....no output from coil....plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil replaced (they were WAY overdue). Still no coil output...do have current to coil. When engine is cranked, rotor on distributor DOES NOT ROTATE. I can rotate rotor (with cap off) back and forth perhaps 20-30 degrees). This means distributor needs to be replaced, right? If so, how is it connected / bolted to block? Also, "in the old days", timing was adjusted by rotating the distributor....on this 1994 is the timing fixed, with the distributor locked with a tab in a fixed position?

Have a 1999 Ford Explorer. OD light flashes after it is driven a while (when it is warm). The colder it is outside the longer it takes for it to start flashing. If I drive it over 50 mp won't flash until slow down and then will not go into overdrive. When you stop and shut off it will reset and you can drive it until you go under 50. Was diagnosed and was told the torque converter clutch soloiod is stuck open. Purchased part. Do you think that is the problem? Where is it located in the transmission? How hard is it to change? Also have cold start problem. Will sputter and spit first thing in the morning. Sometimes dies. Will restart. Just have to hold throttle down a little for a while. After it is warmed up it will run fine. I have change the mass air flow sensor, throttle position sensor, plugs and wires, air filter, idle air control valve. Also clean throttle body. Was getting codes: right and left oxygen bank are tripping and miss fire on some of the cylinders. What else can it be? Purchased a temperature sensor (not sending unit). I have not put it on yet. Can't return it if I do. Need lots of help!!!!!

i have a 94 aerostar xl that we just bought it ran perfect for a few days then suddenly it developed an intermittent power loss problem one minute she runs great the next gas peddle is on the floor just to keep up with traffic she sounds as if shes starving (or maybe more like an old Chevy 4 brrl with all 4 barrels open) Ive changed the fuel filter and added injector cleaner but no change and its getting worse. at idle she sounds great no noises no skips nothing drive off and mostly she starts out OK then she get's weaker by the min. shes not overheating oil pressure is good air cleaner new i plan on doing plugs and wires but am thinking this is a much deeper problem. oh and trany shifts fine the van is at the point that to do 60 mph we need to be on level hwy or downhill anything else and she just goes slower no matter how much gas you give her. the engine is a 3.0 with an a4ld auto trany.any help would be greatly appreciated.thank you all
p.s my engine light is not on and she does not smoke

I have a 99 Mustang GT with approx 66,000mi. At about 1800-2000 RPM's, in gear or out of gear. I get an engine stumble or vibration. Before I realized that it would do it without driving or being in gear i assumed it was a tire issue. Put new tires on, still there! After I realized it would do it sitting in my driveway, (not in gear) that ruled out the transmission.
Changed spark plugs thinking MAYBE... HELP ME I am frustrated... Otherwise the vibration/stumble seems to go away after 2500-3000 RPM's... Thanks for any suggestions in advance... -Frank

The problem i am having is with the hot starting, and at times cold starting. I can usually start it right up cold, although it does run rough for a second, then the rpms level out and runs. when i've run it for about 20-30 min when it's all warmd up i shut it down and try to restart no luck just cranks and cranks. sometimes i can floor the petal and get it started, others nothing till it cools down. i have fuel at the rail and spark at the coil, where do i go from here?

I have a 1979 Bronco with a 351m. The speedometer is off by 7 mph. Do I need to buy a new gear or is there a way to adjust it without pulling the face off and setting it myself?
Also the brakes are extremely soft, I have to pump them 2 or 3 times to get full pressure. I've replaced the lines and master, bled the lines, and still no change and the brake light stays on. What can I do to fix it?

I have changed the control ignition module, and the distrubter. i have perfect fuel pressure i can hear the fuel pump humming before i turn the car over. We just bought my daughter a '93 crown vic with 175,000 miles on it. The car is in immaculate condition and drive great sans for one issue. Overdrive. When the car hits overdrive - there's nothing there - the tranny slips, the engine revs. Shifting from 1-3 is firm and solid. Could this be something simple like a vacume line, or sensor, an adjustment needed somewhere - or do you think the bands' simply trashed?

Hye my Brpnco was fine on the highway, then I stopped and ther is noway to start it again. I jump the cable to an other battery, nothing! I checked all the fuses, they are all good. I checked the inertia switch who was ok, I change the relay for the fuel pump! When I turn the key, I can ear a click but no cranck! Thank you for your help.

My 2001 Taurus has an electric fule pump sometimes the fule pump works and I can start the car, but others times it won't right away. I have had this problem ever since I changed the original battery about 2 years ago. It sstange, but if I try lone enough it finally starts. The fact that I donl' drive but once a week and this for just a little would I think only effect the battery, but I often have ti jump it to get the electric fuel pump to start. once it starts it run fine. It is parked outside all the time, but it seems if I just keep trying and toying with it it starts. I reset the fule pump button that is in the trunk and sometimes that helps get it to work. I also put the parking brake on that for some reason that gets it to work (?). The past couple of months it has worked fine and today after about a week the pump won't come on. I have no checked any relays, not much of a mechanic, but I have always got it to finally work if I just go back and try after it's been a few hours. the past several days we have had a lot of rain, could that be the problem. Well sorry to go on, but I am at my wit's end, hope you can help. Bby the way it turns over fine and anothing trhing is I have gently tapped on the gas tank AAA did it once and whether that helped make it work, who knows. Thanks.

I have a 1996 Ford Probe in which the the check engine code is p1744 and the OD light come on when I travel a distance over 10 miles. What can be the problem? I have been told it is the torque converter or do I need to replace the transmission.

I have an 89 bronco w a 351w there is no cat or emissions on this truck . it seems to be running too rich and is stalling or rpm jumping at an idle i have replaced the map sensor and put an extension on my 2nd o2 sensor b4 the muffler to try to trick the computer with no luck. My 1989 Ford Tempo won't start with the key. I've replaced the selanoid and had the starter checked. It will start if you use a metal screw driver between the connections on the selanoid. So it electrical somewhere. Someone mention the neutral safety switch. Where is that?

Check engine light has been on for a while--it comes and goes.
Today, I went to start up my car, and it sputtered out. Then it wouldn't crank! After a while of trying, we popped the hood. Checked oil, then coolant...Coolant was low, so we added more. After a bit we got it to start, but it sounded rough (chugging) and wouldn't move more than a few feet a second while being floored.
I plugged in a reader and got error code p1131.
Up until this point, the car was idling very roughly (at red lights, felt chugging, buzzing, rough vibrating).
I believe this is a very low maintenance car (infrequent oil, filter, belt changes) so I'm completely lost and virtually anything could be the problem. Absolutely any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I have a 1988 Fullsize Ford Bronco, 351, V8 4x4. The problem I am having is excessive draw off my charging system. It happens at idle, the voltage gauge goes low and eventually stall my truck. The voltage gauge needle will go low when I turn on my heat at idle for example and the truck will eventually stall. When driving, if I let off the accelerator the volatage guage will also go low and stall sometimes, but as soon as I hit the gas it goes back up, to above the middle mark on the gauge. I also notice the headlights get dim when this happens and brighten when I hit the gas either at idle or while driving. Any suggestions?

Hey i have 90 mustang lx with a 5.0, every time i turn it on acts like if it had a big cam for a few minutes and it smokes kind of bad for them few minutes but it stops after that, and if u just crancked it on and take it for a ride it will ride like crazy and u have to almost floor it for a smooth run, i changed fuel filter, u can fill it pulling back and forward when cruising like if it werent getting enough fuel, it was running smooth before i made it five speed conversion and yes it haves a little 303cam. Would somebody know what could be wrong?

94 Ford Escort 1.9 L Engine Has A Rattling Noise - Inspected Timing Belt, Which Had A Bad Belt Tensior And Allowed Timing To Slip. Belt Tensior Was Missing Bairings. Replaced Tensior And Replaced With A New Belt. Noise Still Remained, Opened Valve Cover And Inspected Rockers And Valve Lifters/components. A Valve Guide And Lifter Guide Retainer Were Broken. Removed Valve Lifter And Noticed "chipped" Off Sections Of Roller From The Bottom-side And Noticable Wear On Camshaft. Will Replacing The Valve Lifter, Valve Guide And Valve Guide Retainer Fix The Problem? This Is Supposed To Be A Non-interference Engine, So I Don't Believe It Is From A Bent Valve but then how did the valve lifter become damaged?
